Lowell Bounced from State Legion Tournament

QUINCY -- An entertaining summer of baseball is over the Lowell Post 87 team.

Lowell was bounced from the American Legion State Baseball Tournament after a 6-2 loss to Sandwich on Sunday.

Lowell, which lost both of its games in the state tournament, ended with a sparkling record of 22-4.

Tim Scott took the loss, allowing six earned runs and six hits in 2.1 innings. Sean Nugent was excellent in relief, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless ball, and Chris Ward pitched a scoreless inning.

Six Post 87 players ripped singles -- Joey Sanchez, Ray Velazquez, Anderson Jimenez, Kyle DeRoma, Zach Gitschier and John Donovan.

Velazquez and DeRoma scored Lowell’s runs. Thomas Hassett walked twice, while Jimenez and Gitschier walked once each for the District 5 champions.
