Leavell Named Dallas News Editor
DALLAS (AP) _ Linda Leavell, a supervisor in the Dallas bureau of The Associated Press, has been appointed Texas news editor.
The appointment was announced Wednesday by Dallas chief of bureau John Lumpkin.
Leavell, 30, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, joined the AP in Dallas in 1993. Before that, she was city editor at the now-defunct Vista, Calif., Press and worked at the Odessa (Texas) American.
She was recognized this year with a Texas Headliners award and an honorable mention in the national Associated Press Managing Editors enterprise competition for her computer-assisted reporting project comparing high school teachers’ and coaches’ salaries.
She succeeds Rod Richardson, who recently was promoted to assistant chief of bureau in Dallas.
