NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) — A girl flown to a Portland hospital after falling from a parade float has survived.

Newberg-Dundee police say the 6-year-old fell Saturday while riding a float at the Old Fashioned Festival Parade in Newberg. The accident happened near the fire station. Medics quickly treated the girl who was then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to a Portland hospital.

The girl's parents tell KGW-TV that initial scans showed that their daughter might have suffered a punctured lung, fractured skull and minor brain bleed. But a neurosurgeon later cleared her of all.

In photos provided to the station, the girl's face is banged up, but she's able to give the thumbs up signal from her hospital bed.
