KANKAKEE — A man was shot in his arm as he was driving in the 900 block of East Chestnut Street on Thursday.
It marked the second straight day a person was shot on the north side of Kankakee.
On Wednesday a woman suffered a non life-threatening injury when she was shot as she stood on a rear porch of a home in the 300 block of North Wildwood Avenue.
The shootings happened in roughly the same area.
Asked if the shootings could be related, Investigations Commander Dave Skelly said, ’We have not ruled anything out. We are continuing to investigate and attempt to locate witnesses.”
The man would only tell investigators he was shot while driving, Skelly said.
An officer responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of East Chestnut at 7:24 p.m., according to a report. The officer then was dispatched to Presence St. Mary’s Hospital where the victim was treated.
On Wednesday at 7:40 p.m., the woman was shot in her right upper leg when someone opened fire as they walked by a home in the 300 block of North Wildwood Avenue.
She was treated at Riverside Medical Center. She told investigators she was standing on a porch at the rear of the house when a person walked up and started shooting.
Skelly said they believe the victim was an innocent bystander.
