Volunteers needed to fill vacancies on Santa Fe city boards

December 3, 2018

The city of Santa Fe is seeking volunteers to serve on various influential panels, advisory boards and committees.

The Historic Districts Review Board, Community Development Commission, Human Services Committee and Veterans Advisory Board all are in need of applicants to fill expired terms, according to a city news release.

“There’s an opportunity for volunteers to steer local government and shape the future for our city, and I hope everyone will consider what they can bring to the table and sign up to serve today,” said Mayor Alan Webber.

The Historic Districts Review Board, or H-board, is a powerful advisory group that is tasked with protecting and shaping the appearance and character of the city’s historic districts in and around the downtown area. Members review and approve applications for new construction, alterations and demolitions, and they decide appeals of certain land-use decisions. The panel meets twice monthly.

All of the terms of the seven-member H-board are expired, meaning current members will serve until replacements are appointed or they are reappointed by the mayor and City Council. City code stipulates the H-board shall include an architect, a historian, a business owner in a historic district, a representative of the construction industry and a member of the Old Santa Fe Association.

The five-member Archaeological Review Committee, which meets once a month, has four expired terms.

The seven-member Community Development Commission, which advises on housing issues, has two vacancies. The commission has three mandatory annual meetings and meets once a month as needed.

The five-member Human Services Committee, which meets every other month and advises the City Council on support for social services, has two vacancies.

The seven-member Veterans Advisory Board, which meets once a month, also has two vacancies.

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest to City Clerk Yolanda Vigil at 200 Lincoln Ave, P.O. Box 909, Santa Fe, NM 87504-0909 or yyvigil@santafenm.gov. The deadline is Dec. 30.
