The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man staying in Plum on charges that he failed to register as a sex offender.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Bryan Bowman, 50, of East Pittsburgh, according to a news release.

Tuesday evening, deputies got a tip that Bowman was staying at a residence in the 1400 block of Abers Creek Road in Plum, the release said. Deputies said they found Bowman in the basement “attempting to conceal himself behind a wall in the laundry room.”

Bowman was wanted on a bench warrant filed by the sheriff’s office in 2015.

He was charged with rape, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault of a person younger than 13, as well as endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors in November 2000, the release said. The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred in Butler County in 1997.

Bowman was sentenced to two to five years in state prison and required to register as a sex offender upon release.

The sheriff’s office had been searching for Bowman for almost three months, the release said.

Bowman will remain in jail without bond until he appears in court on the probation violation, the release said. Bowman will also be charged with a second offense of failure to comply with registration requirements.
