Woman killed, stepson unharmed in shooting on Cleveland’s East Side

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police are searching for a male suspect after a woman was shot and killed Wednesday at a home in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Shavonne Willis, 36. Willis was pronounced dead at University Hospitals.

Police were called to a home on the 3200 block of East 121st Street at about 3:45 p.m., spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia says in a news release.

Officers found Willis at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Her 10-year-old stepson also was at the scene and he was uninjured.

Police say the suspect is a male in this 30s and that he was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt. Ciaccia did not say if police know of a possible motive for the shooting.

The fatal shooting is the city’s 99th in 2018. It remains under investigation.
