Utah regents OK tuition increase for colleges, universities
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Students attending Utah’s state colleges and universities face a 1.5 percent increase in tuition.
The Deseret News reports that the increase approved Friday by the Utah State Board of Regents is the lowest percentage increase sought by the state’s higher education system for base tuition in eight years.
The regents’ action on tuition follows legislative approved of a $68.4 million increase in higher education funding, an increase of nearly 8 percent over the previous year.
The 1.5 percent increase applies to all institutions, though policy allows colleges and universities to assess optional second-tier tuition rate increases for specific institutional needs.
Universities that have approved second-tier increases above the base tuition increase: include the University of Utah, Utah State, Weber State and Dixie State.
