Elie, Phoenix Suns Agree to Terms
PHOENIX (AP) _ Guard Mario Elie, who won NBA championships with Houston and San Antonio, agreed to terms with the Phoenix Suns.
Terms of the deal were not released Friday. Elie probably will sign a contract Saturday, Suns spokeswoman Julie Fie said.
Elie, who averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 assists last season with the Spurs, joins a Phoenix backcourt that already has Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway.
``Mario brings many intangibles to our team. He has great leadership, toughness, is a team player and a true professional who has seen it all in the game, including championships,″ Phoenix coach Scott Skiles said.
Elie has averaged 9 points and shot .365 from the 3-point line for his career. He has played for five NBA teams, winning titles with the Spurs in 1999, and the Rockets in 1994 and 1995.
