Neighbor pleads innocent to murder following fatal dispute
PASCO, Wash. (AP) — One neighbor is dead and the other is in jail on $3 million bail following a dispute in Washington.
The Tri-City Herald reports Victor Paniagua pleaded innocent Tuesday to first-degree murder and assault, as well as illegal gun possession.
Paniagua is accused of killing Abel Yanez Contreras on June 3.
Witnesses say the two men were arguing in Contreras’ bedroom when Contreras told Paniagua he didn’t need his help. Another witness claims the men were insulting each other’s mothers.
Witnesses say Paniagua pulled a handgun and pointed it at Contreras’ head, then shot him in the chest.
Authorities say Contreras also was shot in the head at some point.
Paniagua’s trial is set for Aug. 6.
