IMPLANT FILES-PITCHING PAIN

COLUMBIA, South Carolina — Desperate for relief after years of agony, Jim Taft listened intently as his pain management doctor described a medical device that could change his life. It wouldn’t fix the nerve damage in his mangled right arm, Taft and his wife recalled the doctor saying, but a spinal-cord stimulator would cloak his pain, making him “good as new.” By Mitch Weiss and Holbrook Mohr. DOUBLE SHOOTING — Three people have been arrested in the shooting of two people in a small town in southern Colorado.

BEAR BREAK-INS — Officials say they have set a trap after a bear in Colorado broke into five cars in three days, causing serious damage. The Steamboat Pilot and Today reports the two unlocked cars targeted by the black bear Thursday night were a Hyundai and a Subaru.
