Two people were shot Tuesday morning during an active shooter incident, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on U.S. 31 between Hoague and Koenig roads. There is a suspect in custody, according to police.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office stated on its Facebook page Tuesday that the area is secure.

“There is no threat to the public and U.S.31 will be open shortly. There will remain a police presence at the scene of this mornings shooting throughout the day,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The Ludington Area School District and other school districts were placed on a temporarily “soft lockdown,” which was soon lifted by officials on advice from Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett.
