Two homes burn in Omaha; one involved arson, authorities say

November 19, 2018

Two Omaha families were displaced for at least one night in separate house fires Saturday.

Just after 11 a.m., firefighters were called to a blaze in the Country Club neighborhood, at 2308 N. 54th St.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson, fire investigators said. She was booked into the Douglas County Jail.

Neither occupant in the house was injured in the fire, which began about 11 a.m. and was quickly brought under control.

Just to the west of that fire, near 78th Street and Western Avenue, another house fire displaced about five people Saturday afternoon. That one started around 1:45 p.m. and was brought under control at about 2:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire at 1301 Robertson Drive remains under investigation, and the total damage amounts from both scenes were still being tallied Saturday, Assistant Fire Chief Kathy Bossman said.
