Broncos’ Davis Injures Shoulder

December 16, 1997

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Terrell Davis, who leads the AFC in rushing, said it was unclear whether he’ll be able to play for Denver on Sunday against San Diego after separating his right shoulder in a loss at San Francisco.

Davis was knocked out of Monday night’s 34-17 loss to the 49ers in the second quarter.

``I tried to walk it off and stay in and play, but my arm felt like it was falling off,″ Davis said after the game. ``It was just dangling there in the socket. But it’s starting to settle down a little bit and I feel better.″

Davis, who came into the game with 1,722 yards on 359 carries this season, had 10 rushes for 28 yards in the first half against the 49ers. He scored on a 4-yard run, his 15th rushing touchdown of the season.

``If I come back next week, it will be to help this team win a ballgame,″ he said, ``not to get 2,000 yards or anything like that.″

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Monday night the severity of the separation has not been determined.
