10 killed, 30 injured in Nepal bus collision
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Two passenger buses collided head-on Saturday on a key highway in Nepal, killing 10 people and injuring 30 others, police said.
The pre-dawn collision took place on the East West Highway, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of the capital, Katmandu.
Among the 30 injured, 12 are in critical condition.
Police investigating the crash said one of the drivers was believed to be speeding and lost control of the vehicle. He fled the scene.
Poor maintenance of roads and vehicles contributes to many accidents in mountainous Nepal.
Last month, 14 people died, including two Israeli tourists, when their bus veered off a mountain highway.
