Mets Recall Seo to Start for Ishii

April 23, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Mets recalled Jae Seo from Triple-A Norfolk to start Saturday’s game against Washington. Seo replaced left-hander Kaz Ishii, who went on the disabled list Friday night with a strained muscle in his side.

Seo was 0-0 with an 8.22 ERA in 15 1/3 innings for Norfolk. The right-hander pitched 4 1/3 innings Tuesday for the Tides, but Mets manager Willie Randolph didn’t expect that to be a factor.

``He’s on short rest, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot,″ Randolph said. ``He’s not a power pitcher.″

Seo went 5-10 with a 4.90 ERA for the Mets last season.

New York’s starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries this season. In addition to Ishii, Kris Benson (strained chest muscle) and Steve Trachsel (herniated disc) are out.
