NEWARK _ New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has signed four bills into law aimed at improving maternal health care, particularly for residents using Medicaid. The Democrat signed the measures Wednesday at University Hospital in Newark. The new laws were enacted just a day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a study showing pregnancy-related deaths are rising and that being black is a main risk factor. _ DEADLY STREET SHOOTING _ Authorities say a New Jersey man sought in a deadly street shooting has been captured in Pennsylvania.

_ EMT CHIEF-INSURANCE FRAUD _ A former emergency medical services chief in New Jersey has admitted falsifying patient care records in order to bilk insurance companies to collect money for services that were not billable.

_ CHIROPRACTOR-TAX EVASION _ A former chiropractor who evaded paying more than $500,000 in income taxes and didn’t report a Russian bank account where he deposited more than $1.5 million is now headed to prison.

_ NUCLEAR WASTE STORAGE _ U.S. regulators have denied requests by watchdog and environmental groups that sought an evidentiary hearing challenging plans by a New Jersey-based company to build a storage facility for spent fuel from commercial nuclear reactors.



CANTON, Ohio _ A poem that hung in Kevin Mawae’s locker is among more than 200 items he’s donated to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with many to be displayed this summer as part of an exhibit featuring Mawae as a member of the Class of 2019. Mawae said in a release Wednesday that the collection represents a lifetime of football and love of a game that means so much to his family and allows him to share both his journey and the privilege of being in the Hall of Fame. PHILADELPHIA _ Phillies chairman David Montgomery, who was team president during Philadelphia’s 2008 World Series championship season, has died. He was 72. The team issued a statement Wednesday saying Montgomery died after a five-year fight with cancer. With AP photo.
