2 NYC schools close due to neighborhood fire
NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a stubborn overnight fire in Manhattan’s East Village has left a dozen people with minor injuries and caused two nearby schools to close for the day.
The fire started at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday on the first floor of a five-story building and continued into the morning.
Most of those injured are firefighters.
Smoke and firefighting activities in the area caused the cancellation of classes at the East Side Community High School and Public School 19.
