Hicks, assistant coach lead Mad Ants to victory
Stephan Hicks had 25 points and nine rebounds, leading the Mad Ants to a 127-115 victory Thursday over the Greensboro Swarm at Greensboro, North Carolina.
In the final road game of the season, Hicks made 9 of 19 shots.
Jhared Simpson, who is in his third season as a Mad Ants assistant coach, was given the head-coaching duties for the game by Steve Gansey so he could gain the experience. Gansey, who served as an assistant, will retake the reins for the regular-season finale Saturday at Memorial Coliseum against the Grand Rapids Drive.
Saturday’s game had been sold out, but seats are now available for Fan Appreciation Night because some of the 600-level seats at the Coliseum will be open for 15 at the box office or through TicketMaster.
While the Mad Ants (23-26) will not be going to the postseason for the second time in four years, they have won three of their last four games.
Davon Reed had 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting for the Mad Ants. Edmond Sumner added 16 points and seven assists.
Alize Johnson had 13 points and 20 rebounds. Johnson came in to the night averaging 18.8 points and 13.4 rebounds; he’s now had double-digit rebound numbers in eight of his last 10 games.
Greensboro (23-26) was led by John Gillon’s 28 points and eight assists. J.P. Macura added 20 points at Greensboro Coliseum.
