Addition to Norfolk Public Schools Career Academy program may be coming
NORFOLK - Norfolk Public Schools’ Career Academy program may soon be getting a new academy added to the list.
At the Board of Education meeting Monday night Superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson introduced a teaching career academy that her and Norfolk Senior High Assistant Principal Erik Wilson have been working on.
Dr. Thompson said the academy has been in the works with Wayne State College for quite some time.
“We get a lot of great teachers from Wayne State College and part of our hope is to recruit more people to come back to Norfolk Public Schools as future employees.”
Dr. Thompson said students who take the academy would gain access to college-level pre-professional education courses while in high school.
She said it will also allow them to enter Wayne State at the Level two professional course level and provide them with greater accessibility to a variety of teaching endorsement options and opportunities while at college.
Dr. Thompson said she hopes to bring a formal partnership agreement to the board for approval at the next meeting or February meeting.
