Scranton Man Charged With Threatening Mother
A 29-year-old Scranton man who police say has post traumatic stress disorder drank heavily early Wednesday morning and pressed a loaded gun to his mother’s head, saying he wanted her dead, officers said. Benjamin Stark, 2145 Durkin Ave., was jailed on $25,000 bail on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. At 2:15 a.m., police arrived at Stark’s home and found obvious signs the man had been drinking. His mother, Lois Stark, told officers her son was drinking, struggled with issues and threatened her with the gun. She cried and shook as she spoke, police said. Benjamin Stark told officers he didn’t remember the incident and denied threatening his mother with a weapon. He also asked an officer if he could prove his mother’s allegations. Police seized the revolver in question, a Charter Arms .44 Special, along with another handgun. Magisterial District Judge Paul J. Ware arraigned Stark later Wednesday morning. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Sept. 26. Contact the writer: email@example.com, 570-348-9144; @jkohutTT on Twitter.
