The 39-year-old Day was named the Buckeyes’ 25th coach after Urban Meyer decided to retire after the Rose Bowl against Washington on Jan. 1. Smith worked for Chip Kelly in the pro ranks for two years before taking the job as quarterbacks coach at Ohio State before the 2016 season. He was promoted to co-offensive coordinator last season.
