ACTC offering drawing and photography classes
Art is in the air at Ashland Community and Technical College. To help upcoming artists with drawing and photography, ACTC is offering classes through the Spring season.
Classes are as follows:
• Beginners drawing class starts April 11
Ashland Community and Technical College Workforce Solutions is offering a basic drawing skills class this spring.
The six-week class will meet from 5-6 p.m. on Thursdays at the Roberts Drive Campus starting April 11 and running through May 16. The class will be taught by Kim Johnson, who has been an art teacher at Saint Joseph Central Catholic High School in Ironton, Ohio, since 2001. She also studied art at Eastern Kentucky University.
Participants in the class will learn eye-hand coordination drills, basic drawing steps, and touch on advance drawing skills.
This class progresses from grids to contour lines, shapes and shading with the use of still-lifes, to figure drawing.

• ACTC offering spring photography classes
ACTC is offering classes taught by J. Bird Cremeans, a local photographer and experienced Photoshop instructor. Classes are from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus.
Intro to Photography is designed for beginners and hobbyists and will meet on Monday evenings starting April 15-May
20. Participants will get one-on-one instruction, notes and assignments to learn how to use their cameras’ settings. The fee is $75.
Intro to Photography II will meet on Tuesdays, April 16-May
21, and will cover advanced features and techniques such as EV and flash compensation, advanced white balance and metering and other manual settings. A camera with manual functions is recommended. This class is designed for beginners and hobbyists to develop a better understanding of your camera and a more creative eye. The fee is $75.
Intro to Photography III will meet on Wednesday evenings, April 17-May 22. This class will teach you how to use a flash properly. Participants will also learn about speedlights, TTL, off camera flash and more.
Students are required to have a DSLR camera with full manual functions and an off-camera flash. The fee is $75.
