Funkadelic

‘Maggot Brain’

Released: July 12, 1971

Label: Westbound Records

“Maggot Brain” is the third studio album from the Planfield, N.J.-based, funk and psychedelic rock band, Funkadelic. The 11-track album was produced by band originator George Clinton.

Running more than 10 minutes long, the album’s title track leaves you wanting much more, as you’re surprisingly delighted by the spoken words from George Clinton, and the lengthy, yet incredible guitar solo from Eddie Hazel.

“You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks” offers such an authentic sound, that if you turn the volume up just loud enough, it’s as if you’re in the recording studio as Bernie Worrell destroys it on the keyboard.

“Maggot Brain” will turn your brain to mush (in the best possible way), if you listen and just let the sounds of the psychedelic ’70s take you away.

KEY CUTS: “Super Stupid,” “Maggot Brain,” “Hit It and Quit It”
