Husband of ex-US Cabinet official gets prison
PHOENIX (AP) — The husband of former U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in a sex abuse case.
Prosecutors in Arizona say 67-year-old Terryl Gene Peters Sr. also was sentenced Friday to lifetime probation for one count of child molestation and two counts of attempted child molestation.
Terryl Peters was accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl in April 2008. The allegation was reported to police in June 2012.
Prosecutors say the victim’s mother called Terryl Peters to confront him in a recorded phone call, and he admitted having sex with the girl.
Mary Peters served as the nation’s transportation secretary from October 2006 until January 2009.
She considered a run for the Arizona governor’s post in 2006 but ultimately decided against it.
