Platte County sheriff’s report

Dispute over cellphone

On Dec. 11, a call came into the Platte County Sheriff’s Office regarding a dispute over a phone. Apparently, the phone’s owner had loaned the device to a second party who refused to return it, according to Sheriff Ed Wemhoff. Upon speaking to a deputy, the person returned the phone to its owner.

Several arrested over past week

Darian McCollum, of Columbus, was arrested by a deputy on Dec. 12. She was wanted on a Platte County warrant for failure to pay a $138.50. She has since paid the fine and been released from police custody, according to Sgt. Linda Roebuck of the detention facility.

That same day, Ismael Martinez, of Creston, was arrested at a residence outside of Creston. He was arrested on a charge of second-degree domestic assault. He has since paid his $1,000 bail bond and been released from police custody, according to Roebuck. His court date is scheduled for Dec. 31 in Platte County Court.

On Saturday, Luis Manuel Lopez, of Columbus, turned himself in to the Platte County detention facility. He was wanted on a Platte County warrant for allegedly issuing a bad check. He has since paid his $250 bail bond and been released from police custody, according to Roebuck. His court date is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 19 in county court.

On Sunday, a call came in to the Sheriff’s Office reporting suspicious activity around a cemetery near Duncan. The caller claimed to have heard gunshots coming from the area, according to Wemhoff. A deputy stopped a vehicle that was attempting to leave the vicinity. The driver, Wayne Schrad, of Columbus, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol second offense, refusal of a chemical test, refusal of preliminary breath test and disturbing the peace.

Schrad posted his $1,000 bail bond and been released from police custody, according to Roebuck. His court date has been scheduled for Jan. 16 in county court.

On Monday, Gabrielle Maslonka, of Columbus, was arrested on a Platte County warrant for allegedly failing to pay child support. Her bail bond has been set at $1,000 and she is currently in police custody, according to Roebuck. As of Tuesday, her court date had not been scheduled.
