Area man dies after combine collision
One man is dead after colliding with a combine on Tuesday evening, local authorities said.
On Nov. 20, 2018, at about 8 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatality accident located at 54900 U.S. 275, said Vern Hjorth, Madison County Sheriff.
Upon arrival, they found that a westbound Maroon 2001 Dodge Durango driven by Douglas D. Rakowsky, 68, of rural Battle Creek, had collided with the rear of a 2016 John Deere combine driven by Mark Freudenburg of rural Madison, Hjorth said.
The driver of the Durango was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was shut down for about three hours.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Battle Creek Fire and Rescue, Norfolk Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Battle Creek Police Department also responded to the accident, Hjorth said.
