GTE Moving General Offices Of Telephone Operating Group
NEW YORK (AP) _ GTE Corp. is moving the general office of its Telephone Operating Group from Stamford, Conn., but will maintain corporate headquarters in the Connecticut city, the company said today.
James Broadhead, the president of the telephone group, told headquarters employees today that a new location for the group has not been selected.
Speculation on the new location has centered on the Dallas-Fort Worth area. About 300 of the roughly 1,000 people employed by GTE in Stamford are part of the Telephone Operating Group, said Geoffrey Pickard, vice president for public affairs in GTE’s Products and Systems Group.
GTE has repeatedly denied that the headquarters of the entire corporation would be moved from Stamford and did so again today.
The Dallas Morning News, quoting unnamed sources, reported today that GTE was moving its entire corporate headquarters to Dallas-Fort Worth after eyeing sites in Tampa, Fla., Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Westfield, Ind.
″It’s absolutely not true,″ Pickard said.
