Bolero Master Wins at Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) _ Bolero Master, with Hall of Fame driver John Campbell, overtook favored Island Fantasy in the final eighth of a mile to win the $303,995 Art Rooney Memorial Pace at Yonkers Raceway on Saturday night.

Bolero Master went a mile in 1:53 4-5 in winning for the second time in six starts this year. The victory was worth $151,997, almost twice his previous earnings of $86,175.

Bolero Master, who left from the rail in the eight-horse field, was second after a quarter-mile and was third when the field crossed the finish line the first time.

Still third after three-quarters of a mile, Bolero Master caught Island Fantasy at the top of the stretch and held on by a quarter-length. Justanotherpoorboy was third.

Bolero Master returned $19.80, $6.70 and $3.60.

``Leaving from the rail was the key,″ Campbell said. ``This was a huge win for Bolero Master. As for myself, I’ve been very fortunate at Yonkers. This is another big stakes win for me on this very comfortable track.″

The race is named for the late owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
