CBP: Meth hidden in strawberry shipment at Valley bridge

February 19, 2019

Methamphetamine and strawberries apparently do not mix.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers discovered 906 pounds of meth worth $12,700,000 on Saturday at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

According to a CBP news release, officers discovered the drugs when they questioned a 42-year-old Mexican driver with a commercial shipment of frozen strawberries being inspected in the cargo area at the bridge.

The berries and drugs were being transported from Mexico into the United States.

During a secondary inspection, officers say they found 350 packages filled with the methamphetamine hidden within the trailer.

The driver was taken into custody, while the drugs, tractor and trailer were all seized by CBP.
