Developments Monday related to the Sept. 11 attacks:

_ Afghanistan Prime Minister Hamid Karzai says combat-ready U.S. Marines began a mission to capture Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, thought to be hiding in the remote mountains of central Afghanistan.

_ Japan’s Lt. Cmdr. Takashi Hidaka says the Japanese warship Uraga, one of six ships sent last month to support the U.S.-led war against Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers, returned home.

_ President Bush names Zalmay Khalilzad, an Afghan-born adviser on his national security team, as special presidential envoy to Afghanistan.

_ The Bush administration acts to cut off funds to five northern Irish groups and a Spanish group for alleged terrorist activity.
