Official: Japan supports China’s participation in G-7
SHANGHAI, China (AP) _ Japanese Finance Minister Hiroshi Mitsuzuka says China should be included in the Group of Seven consultations of the world’s top industrialized nations.
``It will become important for China to join″ the G-7, and it is natural for Japan to support its neighbor as a potential participant, Mitsuzuka told reporters late Thursday night.
Mitsuzuka said he welcomed Russia’s presence in the economic summit in Denver and said that the G-7′s expansion to a Group of Eight, including Russia, was an ``essential development.″
China has not publicly expressed interest in becoming part of the G-7. However, its growing importance as a world trading power and its influence on world affairs have prompted suggestions that Chinese leaders ought to join their Western counterparts in the G-7 summit gatherings.
