Kenya Bus Plunge Kills 37
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) _ A bus plunged off a bridge in Kenya, killing at least 37 people and injuring dozens, police said Friday.
The accident happened late Thursday near Meru, 100 miles northeast of Nairobi, as the bus traveled to Mombasa, police spokesman Dola Indidis said.
It was unclear how many passengers were on the bus, owned by local company Tawfiq. Kenyan buses are often overloaded.
``There could still be people trapped under the debris,″ Indidis said. ``This morning we recovered four bodies, which is why we are leaving open the possibility of finding more.″
Indidis said 19 people have been admitted to local hospitals.
The cause of the accident was not known. No other vehicle was involved, he said.
