Local Roundup: Perez’s Free Throws Lift Fitchburg State
WESTFIELD -- Senior guard Jonathan Perez sank two free throws with 0.3 seconds left as the Fitchburg State University men’s basketball team defeated the Owls of Westfield State University, 79-77, in MASCAC action on Tuesday at the Woodward Center.
The Falcons (8-9, 4-1 MASCAC) were paced by junior Andre Ruff, with a team-best 20 points and three boards, and classmate Nicholas Tracy, with 17 points and five assists.

Junior Catherine Coppinger led Fitchburg State (8-8, 2-3 MASCAC) with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Angelina Marazzi chipped in with 12 points and five boards.
JaVona Smith scored 13 points to lead the Blue Devils (5-5), while teammates Haley Mondville (12 points) and Grace Adams (11 points) also played well against their rivals in the road victory. Fitchburg was led by an eight-point effort from Mia Cavins.
