Wind, waves, lightning cancel kids, women’s fishing tournament today
Lightning and high winds forced the cancelation this morning of the West Shore Bank Youth Classic and the Bud Light Ladies Pro/Am & Big Fish portion of the Ludington Offshore Classic fishing tournament.
“Safety is the number one concern,” said Shane Ruboyianes, Ludington Offshore Classic board member. “With the women and the kids tournaments today you want everybody to have a good experience. The weather this morning was not suitable for that to happen.”
The weather forced the committee to delay the shotgun start from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., but, according to Ruboyianes, lightning seen to the west at about 4:30 a.m. was what ultimately forced the committee to make the decision to cancel the events.
“We can’t send people out when there is lightning,” he said. “I was up at 4:30 this morning and it was raining and you could see lightning to the west. You could see it on the radar coming and the winds were steadily picking up. The wave predictor was going to continue throughout the day.”
