Suns Manning Out for Season

April 9, 1998

PHOENIX (AP) _ Phoenix forward Danny Manning is likely to miss the rest of the season after injuring his right knee, the club said Wednesday.

Suns general manager Bryan Colangelo said doctors hadn’t yet determined the extent of the damage to Manning’s right knee, which was surgically rebuilt after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in January 1989. Manning also tore his left ACL in February 1995.

``The evaluation is not complete,″ Colangelo said in a statement. ``When complete information becomes available on the injury, we will provide that.″

The Suns have six games left, starting Friday night against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

The Suns signed Manning as a free agent on Sept. 8, 1994, after he agreed to play for one season for $1 million. Following an injury-marred initial season in Phoenix, he signed a $40 million, six-year deal.

In the dressing room after Phoenix’s 103-97 victory Tuesday in Sacramento, Manning said he was sure it was another ligament injury. He is averaging 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in his 10th NBA season.
