Boston U. Wins 27th Beanpot Title
BOSTON (AP) _ Boston University’s Pete MacArthur pulled aside goalie John Curry after he allowed a Boston College goal that tied the Beanpot championship game at 2 midway through the third period.
``Pete came over to me ... and said, ’We’re going to score here,‴ Curry said.
Less than a minute later, MacArthur swatted at a rebound in front of the net like a baseball slugger, knocking the puck past goalie Corey Schneider.
MacArthur’s goal with 7:17 left helped Boston University beat Boston College 3-2 on Monday night for its second straight Beanpot title and 27th overall.
``That was the first thing that came to my mind at that moment. ’All right, we’re going to score right now and take the wind out of their sails,″ said MacArthur, who assisted on BU’s first goal and was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.
``I was in front of the net and was fortunate to bat it out of the air.″
Bryan Ewing and Jason Lawrence added second-period goals for the Terriers (18-8-2), and John Curry made 18 saves. Peter Harrold and Brian Boyle scored for the Eagles (19-7-2).
Harrold scored on a power play with 2:28 left in the first period, Ewing tied it off an assist from MacArthur at 4:07 of the second, and Lawrence gave the Terriers the lead 5 minutes later. Boyle completed the scoring with 6:24 left in the third.
In the consolation game, Jon Pelle scored two goals and Justin Tobe made 24 saves in Harvard’s 5-0 victory over Northeastern. Ryan Maki, Steve Rolecek and Nick Coskren also scored for the Crimson (14-9-2). Adam Geragosian made 36 saves for the Huskies (2-20-6).
