WVC FIELD HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Jordyn Catina's Hat Trick Sparks GAR To First Win

At Wyoming Seminary, Hannah Maxwell (four goals), Julia Christian (two goals, three assists), Alex Wesneski (two goals, assist) and Aubrey Mytych (goal, two assists) each had big night on offense as the Blue Knights cruised past their rivals from Crestwood 10-0.

Bari Lefkowitz also scored for Sem, while Elisabeth Seyfarth tallied a pair of assists.

GAR 6, Tunkhannock 1

At GAR, Jordyn Catina scored three goals, Erin Leonard added two more, and Selena Evertz also scored once to help the Grenadiers beat Tunkhannock and earn their first win of the WVC field hockey season.

GAR goalkeeper Reilly Holden made two saves and allowed only one goal, which was scored by the Tigers’ Erica O’Hara.

Hanover Area 2, Nanticoke Area 1

At Nanticoke Area, Rhiannon Danko and Abby Korba scored back-to-back goals in the first half, helping Hanover Area establish a lead it held on to for the win.

Mackenzie Casey aided Nanticoke Area’s comeback attempts with a second-half goal, which cut the Hawkeyes’ lead to 2-1. Trojanettes goalkeeper Jill Maute made 12 saves and Hanover Area’s Alyssa Wivell had five saves.

At Holy Redeemer, Chloe Fox and Brooke Gardas each scored goals within less than a minute of each other, as that provided all the scoring Honesdale needed to win.

Honesdale goalkeeper Nicole Miszler made five saves, while her Redeemer counterpart, Meredythe Baird, had nine stops.

At Pittston Area, Hazleton Area broke a halftime tie with two goals by Taylor Buchman, as well as a goal apiece from Gabrielle Cavenas and Mia Dremock, in a win.

Jill Buchman assisted three of the Cougars’ goals, which came against Patriots goalkeeper Sage Weidlich, who recorded 16 saves.

Hazleton Area goalie Jenna Corra made four saves in a shutout.

At Coughlin, Jolene Ulichney scored early and often, finishing with four goals and an assist as the Crusaders led wire-to-wire.

Abie Sorokas also scored two goals for the Crusaders. Madison Schmalzle, Kayla Schmalzle and Abbi McCue scored for Wallenpaupack.

At Valley West, Cameryn Forgash and Karaline Stelma scored two goals each in the first half, while Forgash completed the hat trick early in the second half, leading the Spartans.

Abington Heights goalkeeper MaKenna Thorpe made 13 saves, as the Comets were outshot 27 to 1.

At Northwest, Kendra Saxton scored at the first-half buzzer, which gave the Rangers a lead they protected until the final whistle.

Saxton added a second goal in the second half. Emily Culver also scored for Northwest.

Alana Germano scored a goal for Meyers, whose goalkeeper, Olyvia Jackson, made 13 saves.
