Domestic battery

Bourbonnais police arrested Jeffery M. Ghere, 45, of Bourbonnais, for aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and resisting a peace officer on Nov. 9. According to a prosecutor, officers were called to an apartment in the 500 block of Forest Avenue for a domestic disturbance. The victim said Ghere punched her in the chest and head. he also held a forearm against her throat causing her to have trouble breathing. Ghere said he did not hit her and had a scratch on his neck. A judge set Ghere’s bond at $10,000.

DUI

Illinois State Police District 21 arrested James S. Stewart, 39, of Kankakee, for driving under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 11. According to a release, at approximately 3:21 a.m., a trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit and swerving all over the roadway on Kinzie Avenue at North Street in Bradley. The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Stewart. Stewart showed signs of alcohol impairment. Stewart was issued tickets for speeding, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to signal when changing lanes and driver’s license not on person.

Illinois State Police District 21 arrested Jason D. Rivera, 36, of Kankakee, for driving under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 10. According to a release, at approximately 3:35 a.m., a trooper was dispatched to a vehicle that struck a guardrail on Interstate 57 southbound at mile marker 298. The trooper located the vehicle on I-57 southbound at mile marker 288. The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Rivera. Rivera showed signs of alcohol impairment. Rivera was issued tickets for driving while license revoked, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and obstructing identification.

Illinois State Police District 21 arrested Charles E. Copley II, 27, of Wilmington, for driving under the influence of drugs on Nov. 10. According to a release, at approximately 4:38 p.m., a trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County. The trooper observed a vehicle swerving all over the roadway on Illinois Route 17 at 15000W Road. The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Copley. Copley showed signs of drug impairment. Copley was issued tickets for improper lane usage, driver’s license not on person and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Illinois State Police District 21 arrested Sheila M. Wauters, 46, of Tinley Park, for driving under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 7. According to a release, at approximately 9:49 p.m., a trooper was dispatched to a motorist assist on Interstate 57 southbound at mile marker 303. The trooper arrived on scene and spoke with the driver, Wauters. Wauters showed signs of alcohol impairment. Wauters was issued tickets for driving while license suspended and improper parking on the roadway.

Robbery

Kankakee police investigated an attempted armed robbery at a business in the 500 block of North Fifth Avenue on Nov. 12. At approximately 12:02 p.m., officers were called to the business. Employees said a man tried to open the cash register. He said he had a gun but never displayed it. Employees were able to remove the assailant, who fled on foot eastbound two block on West Cypress Street and then went southbound. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
