Black & Decker Recalls Some Automatic Drip Coffee Makers
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Black & Decker announced a voluntary recall Wednesday of 750,000 under-the- cabinet model coffee machines because of thermostats that could present possible fire hazards.
Consumers owning SDC1, SDC2 and SDC3 model machines made between February 1984 and May 1988 under the Black & Decker or General Electric name should take them to the nearest Black & Decker service center for inspection.
Models with date codes of 406 through 822 are being recalled. The codes can be found on the outside of the plug prong.
Black & Decker will replace the affected thermostat free of charge, or give consumers 70 percent off the price of a new Black & Decker coffee maker.
Machines found not to contain a damaged thermostat will be returned to consumers. They should call (800) 826-1070 for the location of the nearest service center.
