Christmas food giveaway to feed 1,000 local families

December 20, 2018

Through the generous backing of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and Avi Resort and Casino, combined with considerable support from the city of Needles and volunteers from all of those organizations, 1,000 families in need will be provided all of the ingredients to make a festive Christmas meal at a holiday giveaway to be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. PST on Thursday, Dec. 20.

These volunteers — including members of the Fort Mojave Tribal Council, the Avi Casino Board of Directors and Executive Team, representatives from the city of Needles and members of the casino’s management company, Warner Hospitality — will prepare bags and boxes with enough food for a Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings for a family of four. The food boxes and bags will be distributed to families on a first come, first served basis at drive-through food stations located in the parking lot of the city/county complex, 1111 Bailey Ave. at J Street.

This Christmas food giveaway will include a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and pumpkin pie and is intended to provide the means for local families to share a holiday meal together while promoting the spirit of giving this holiday season.

This year’s event grew out of annual donations from the Tribe and Avi Resort and Casino to feed the needy during the holidays. In years past, these efforts would include food and turkey donations to local churches, food banks and community organizations as well as the contributions of volunteers made up of tribal leaders and employees, casino executives and management and community members.

The goal for this holiday season is no different as the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and Avi Resort and Casino will continue to provide these donations in addition to the Christmas food giveaway. Donations this year will be made to food banks, churches and community organizations in Needles and Lake Havasu City, Kingman and Golden Shores, Ariz.

With each passing year, the hope of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and Avi Resort and Casino is to see their donations and this event become beloved traditions for the community: ones that bring the community together for holidays to remember.
