Man charged in groping of child in Trumbull mall
TRUMBULL - A Shelton man has been arrested for allegdly grabbing a buttocks of a 9-year-old girl in the Westfield Trumbull mall on Sunday.
Ameer Stewart, 18, of Windfield Drive, was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor.
Lt. Keith Golding said a female shopper reported around 3 a.m. Sunday that while she was shopping with her daughter in the children’s clothing section at Target, a man grabbed her child’s buttocks two times.
“The mother, who was on her phone at the time of the incident with her daughter nearby, told police that her daughter came up her in a terrified state and told her a man just grabbed her buttocks,” Golding said in a release.
“The child was able to point Stewart out to her mother who immediately confronted him. Stewart ignored her and walked away. She reported the incident to Target security who were able to view the incident on the store’s video surveillance system,” Golding said.
Trumbull police located Stewart in another area of the mall a short time later.
He attempted to escape, but was apprehended and taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
