Marshall 93, Appalachian St. 80
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) _ Shawn Moore had 26 points and 12 rebounds as Marshall muscled out Appalachian State on the boards in a 93-80 Southern Conference victory Saturday.
Troy Gray scored 27 for the Thundering Herd (9-3, 1-0 conference), which outrebounded Appalachian State 43-28 in equalling its victory total for all of 1993-94, when it finished 9-18.
The teams were evenly matched in other statistics, with both shooting 47 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line and each committing 19 turnovers.
Marshall opened the game 8-0 and led the Mountaineers (3-10, 0-1) 26-14 midway through the first half and 46-39 at halftime. The closest Appalachian State got was 48-44 with 17:55 left before the Herd pulled away with a 13-0 run.
Tink Brown scored 14 for Marshall. Chad McClendon led Appy State with 17 points and Kareem Livingston scored 16.
