Ghouls rule at Leechburg Halloweenburg
Ghosts and goblins took over Market Street Thursday evening during the annual Halloweenburg parade in Leechburg.
Sponsored by LACA (Leechburg Area Community Association) and the Leechburg Fire Department, Halloweenburg is a week-long Halloween-themed community celebration that includes a scarecrow and pumpkin carving contest, parade, pumpkin trail and pancake breakfast.
New this year was a pre-parade flash mob performance of “Thriller,” performed by about 12 kids and a handful of adults.
Joe Hesketh of Vandergrift is theater savvy and staged spooky lights and fog for the two-minute performance on Market Street for the public.
“This was new, and we are engaging with the community and I hope to do more of these,” Hesketh said.
More than $1,000 in cash prizes was awarded to the three best float designs.
More than ten Leechburg VFD fire trucks cruised in the parade, with volunteers hurling candy to hundreds of eager spectators.
“We try and make it bigger and better every year,” said Leechburg councilwoman Lorrie Bazella.
