P&G To Hike Towel, Tissue Prices
CINCINNATI (AP) _ Procter & Gamble Co. said it will increase the prices of Bounty paper towels, Charmin toilet paper and Puffs facial tissue because of higher pulp prices.
Effective Jan. 19, P&G will boost the prices to wholesalers and retailers of Charmin and Bounty by 6 percent to 7 percent and Puffs by 4 percent, the company said Tuesday.
Even with the increases, the products’ list prices will still be lower than they were in 1995-96, company spokesman Scott Stewart said.
In April 1996, the company reduced the prices of Charmin by 8.6 percent, Bounty 4.8 percent and Puffs 8.5 percent because of lower pulp prices.
Procter & Gamble, based in Cincinnati, is a leader in the paper goods business. Sales of its tissue products have increased 42 percent over the last five years, Stewart said.
