Artemis Fowl Book Club coming to Briggs Library

He’s a millionaire, a criminal mastermind and a genius. He’s also only 12 years old. Artemis Fowl is the main character in a series of seven books for young readers that will be make up Briggs Lawrence County Public Library’s new book club for teens and tweens. The books were written by Irish author, Eoin Colfer.

Following the success of last year’s Harry Potter Book Club, the Artemis Fowl Book Club will meet monthly at the Ironton library. Meetings will concentrate on a different book from the series each month from February through September. In addition to talking about the books, members will also participate in a craft and other activities.

The first meeting is Monday, Feb. 25, where members will talk about the first book in the series, “Artemis Fowl.” Future meetings are scheduled for March 25, April 29, May 20, June 24, July 29, Aug. 19 and Sept. 30. All meetings are at 4:30 p.m.

Copies of the books are available to check out online. Free, e-versions of the books are available through the library’s digital service, Hoopla.

The club coincides with the release of the first Artemis Fowl movie that will be released by Disney studios on Aug. 9.

Kids ages 10 to 18 are invited to join Briggs Lawrence County Public Library’s new Anime/Manga Club. The first meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Ironton library located at 321 S. 4th St. The goal of the club is to become member-directed. Interested young people may read and discuss current and classic Manga, watch Anime movies and short films and enjoy a variety of Anime and Manga related activities. Young children and their caregivers are invited to enjoy stories, music, rhymes, games and crafts at all Briggs Library locations. Next week’s preschool schedule is:
