Historic designation sought for Centlivre House
A home associated with the Centlivre brewery family will be considered for designation as a local historic district Monday.
At its 5:30 p.m. meeting, the Fort Wayne Historic Preservation Commission will consider an application for the properties at 2417 and 2419 Spy Run Ave., including a Victorian-era, Queen Anne-style mansion known as the Charles F. and Mollie Centlivre House.
The home was designed by famed architects Wing & Mahurin, who also designed the John H. Bass Mansion now known as Brookside on the campus of the University of Saint Francis and Fort Wayne’s former City Hall, now The History Center.
The house is one of the properties’ three surviving buildings of the C.L. Centlivre Brewing Co. Local historians call the brewery “one of Fort Wayne’s important and iconic industries of the late 19th and early 20th centuries” in documents accompanying the application.
The designation is sought by owners N&M Centlivre LLC and its agent, Marianne Centlivre.
