BELLE FOURCHE — The Black Hills Roundup is mourning the loss of one of its longtime family members.

Chad Nicholson, the Voice of the Roundup, died Friday evening in a vehicle accident.

The Visalia Times Delta reported that the accident occurred when a tow rope snapped sending a vehicle 30-40 down into a ravine.

Further details were not immediately available.

For nearly 20 years, Nicholson served as the announcer at the Black Hills Roundup.

“It’s going to be tough to fill his shoes,” said Clay Crago, chairman of the Black Hills Roundup Committee.

Crago said the Roundup family is grieving the loss of the Nicholson, from Three Rivers, Calif. He said Nicholson would be honored at this year’s Roundup which celebrates its 100th year.
