PHOTOS: Parade Of Treesraises Money For Charities
The 23rd annual Grotto Pizza Parade of Trees is under way at the Harveys Lake restaurant. Since its inception, the Parade of Trees has raised more than $240,000 for local charities, thanks to the continued participation of area businesses, the support of the general public and the generosity of the Joseph and Erma Paglianite Charitable Foundation, which will add another $25,000 to collected donations this year. Representatives from dozens of businesses and charities decorated their trees Tuesday. ‘Each year participants get more creative with their decorations and themes,’ said Armand Mascioli, co-owner of Grotto Pizza. ‘In recent years we’ve seen Star Wars trees, musical trees, and others decorated with everything from eyeglasses to toy cars. There’s a lot of creativity that goes into trimming these trees.’ Businesses sponsor a tree in support of the charity of their choice. Visitors to Grotto Pizza Harveys Lake then ‘vote’ with donations to that tree. The trees that raise the most funds earn additional dollars. The Parade of Trees will be on display through New Year’s Eve. Above: Patty Dymond, of Falls, and her four-month-old granddaughter, Ensley Wright, of Shavertown, check out some of the trees Sunday.
