Maryland man in accident

Blaine J. Friend, 76, of Accident, Maryland, was traveling east on River Road in Elk Lick Township Friday afternoon when he lost control of his truck while rounding a curve and struck a tree. Friend suffered a suspected serious injury and was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, according to state police. Meyersdale EMS, MedStar and Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.

Ice causes crash

Emily C. Spears, 28, of Meyersdale, was northbound on Route 160 in Wellersburg Borough early Saturday when she lost control of her car on a patch of ice. The car began to fishtail and exited the road on the east shoulder. It struck a dirt embankment, rolled onto its side and slid into a utility pole, shearing the pole in half, state police said. Spears was not injured.

Vehicles collide

No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning at the intersection of Route 281 and Samuels Road in Somerset Township. Sarah C. Hay. 23, of Somerset, was traveling east on Samuels Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Route 281, state police said. Pamela S. Weimer, 59, of Markleton, who was traveling north on Route 281, was unable to avoid the car. Neither driver was injured.

Deer causes accident

A Johnstown man was injured when his car struck a deer on state Route 219 near Green Bridge Road in Jenner Township. Fengxi Chen, 40, was northbound at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 30 when a deer ran into his path. His car struck the deer, swerved to the left, traveled onto an embankment and overturned, according to state police. The car rolled back onto its wheels and onto the roadway. Chen suffered a suspected minor injury, police said.

Car struck on train tracks

A Hyndman man’s car became stuck on railroad tracks in Fairhope Township early on Jan. 12. Randy S. Allison Jr., 30, was northbound on Fairhope Road. As his car crossed the railroad tracks, it exited the roadway and became stuck on the tracks. Unable to free the vehicle, Allison fled, leaving the car running on the tracks, state police said. It was struck by another vehicle on the tracks and pushed approximately three-quarters of a mile. The car was disabled.
